Our history
The Sengerema Health Training Institute (SHTI) was formed to training programmes in the fields related to health and allied sciences. Currently the institute is offering four programmes namely Clinical Medicine, Laboratory Medicine, Social Work, Nursing and Midwives training institute. The SHTI is the new name after the Catholic Diocese of Geita as owner decided to merge its health training institutions formerly known as Sengerema Clinical Officers Training Institute and Sengerema Nursing School to one institution. Under the SHTI’s the former institutions are turn to be called departments. The Sengerema Health Training Institute was registered by the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) to offer health training programmes from Basic Technician Level (NTA level 4) to Ordinary Diploma (NTA level 6).

The college was registered under the new registration system by the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE-established by the Act No. 9 of 1997) having satisfied the requirements for Full Registration as a Technical Education and Training Institution.

How to reach Sengerema from Mwanza.
The Kamanga Ferry fare (across the lake from Mwanza to Sengerema side) is Tshs =1,000/= per person and the bus or ‘daladala’ (ie “Matatuu”) fare to Sengerema is 1,000/= per person. Also Busisi Ferry can be used. Ask ferries/buses crews for assistance (NB: Ask with cautions since you may land on the hand of bad people.
If you have used Kamanga Ferry ask the Bus conductor/Driver to stop at Sengerema Hospital (Popularly known as “DDH”) for you to disembark on your right side you will see a signpost reading ‘Sengerema Health Training Institute’ . In case you have used Busisi ferry, disembark at Sengerema Bus stand then ask taxis to Sengerema Mission – SHTI
Motivation
the school is highly motivated staffs that work to fulfill their liabilities with God spirit while creating the good students and good staffs of tomorrow.
Religious
Despite the school is under ownership of catholic church, the school has an assumption that all students has own beliefs and respect them with consideration of harmony and peace to others’ freedom to pray. So all are obliged to obey and respect each other.
