Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Policy, Parliamentary Affairs, Labour, Employment, Youth and the Disabled
Prime Minister’s Office – Labor, Youth, Employment and Persons with Disabilities (PMO-LYED) can be traced back to the time our country gained independence in 1961. From 1961 to 1962 the ministry was known as the Ministry of Labor and Health; Ministry of Communications (1962-1968), Ministry of Communications, Transport and Labor (1968-1972); Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (1972-1984); Ministry of Labor and Manpower Development (1985 to 1988); Ministry of Labour, Culture and Welfare (1989-1990); Ministry of Labor, Youth Development and Sports (1990-2006); Ministry of Labour, Employment and Youth Development (2006-2010); Ministry of Labor and Employment (2010 to 2015) and Prime Minister’s Office – Labor, Youth, Employment and Persons with Disabilities (PMO-LYED) (2015 to date). Despite all these changes, business remains the primary concern. These changes were formally approved by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania and came into effect on 7 July 2018. The structure is designed to facilitate the implementation of the mandates of the office as provided in the Notice on Assignment of Ministerial Tasks (Tools) Video Government Notice No. 144 of April 2016 and amended on October 7, 2017.
