Mbeya Region: Opportunities in Tanzania | Is one of the 31 administrative Region in Tanzania. It is located in the southwest of the country.
The regional capital is the city of Mbeya. According to the 2012 national census, the area’s population was 2,707,410, which is lower than a pre-census projection of 2,822,396.
In 2002-2012, the region’s average annual population growth rate of 2.7 percent was tied to the tenth highest in the country. It has also been tied for the 18th most densely populated place with 45 people per square kilometer.

In 2016, the city of Tendoma and the counties of Ileje, Mbozi, Momba and Songwe (created from the western part of Chunya County) were separated from the Mbeya Region to create the Songwe Region.
The Mbeya region is now bordered to the northwest by the Tabora region, to the northeast by Singida region, to the east by Iringa region, to the south by Songwe and Malawi region, and to the west by Songwe region.
Prior to the establishment of the Songwe Region, the Mbeya Region covered an area of 62,420 square kilometers (24,100 sq mi). It now covers an area of 35,954 square kilometers (13,882 square miles).
