Monduli District Council-Arusha, Tanzania

Monduli District Council
Mondoli District is one of the seven districts of Arusha District in Tanzania. It is located in the northeastern part of the country. It is bordered on the north by Longido County, on the east by Arusha Rural District, on the south by Manyara District, and on the west by Ngorongoro and Karatu District. The city of Mondoli is the administrative headquarters of the district. According to the 2002 national census of Tanzania, the population of Mundoli district was 185,237. By 2012, the area’s population was 158,929. The population decreased, as the Longido area was divided.
The word Mondoli originated in the Mondoli Joe Suite. There were wealthy Maasai ancestors by the name of Mondoli, who lived in the area during the times of German colonialism. The Germans colonized the region (later Tanganyika, Rwanda, and Burundi) in the 1880s. They brought forced labor and alienation from the land as well as Christianity and European education, and they taught science, mathematics, engineering, and even German. Tanganyika gained its independence on December 9, 1961, under the leadership of Prime Minister Julius Nyerere. In April 1964, Tanganyika and Zanzibar, a former British protectorate, united to form Tanzania under President Nyerere.
