Ngara District Council
History
Ngara District is one of eight (08) districts of Kagera region, Tanzania. The people of Ngara are Wonderful and Predatory and speak Wonderful and Predatory. Before being named Ngara, it was known as Kibimba i.e. Pori. The main source of the name Ngara is a place that was special for meetings, which took place under large trees called iminyinya yingara. Thus, the umunyinya tree was planted in Ngara district council as a memorial, as it bears the name of Ngara district.
Location
Ngara District has an area of about 3,744 Km2, divided into four (4) divisions namely Nyamiaga, Kanazi, Rulenge and Murusagamba, 22 wards, 75 villages and 389 neighborhoods.
People of Ngara
The residents of Ngara district are divided into two tribes which are the Hangaza and the Shubi. According to the 2012 census the district has a total of 63,293 households with a population of 320,056, of whom 152,443 (47%) are men and 167,613 (53%) are women. The population increase between the 2002 census and the 2012 census is 2.7 percent
Weather
Ngara District has two rainy seasons, namely autumn and spring rains. Autumn runs from September to December and the rainy season runs from February to May. The annual rainfall reaches an average of 1400 mm for the upper belt and 800 mm for the lower belt. The average temperature for the southern zone is 17 ° C and the northern zone temperature rises to 25 ° C.
Economic Activities
The economy of Ngara district depends on agricultural and pastoral activities. The main crops grown are coffee, bananas, cassava, maize, beans and sorghum in terms of food crops. The main products of the trade are coffee, bananas and apricots. About 95 percent of the district’s population is dependent on agriculture as a source of income and agricultural activities account for more than 94 percent of the district’s GDP.

However the recent state council meetings in 2014 has been put forward an argumentation to divide the district into two constituencies which will be North Ngara and South Ngara. This has been agreed for or the case after the allocation of new Region which in the coming years the district will be sharing one region with the other two District from Kigoma region which are Kakonko and Kibondo joining Ngara and Biharamulo from Kagera Region to form a new Region with its headquarters at Nyakanazi the recent and popular known junction joining Kigoma region with Kagera Region.
