Mlele District Council
The local government system in Tanzania was established by the Constitution of the Republic of Tanzania of 1977 under Articles 145 and 146. The district council authorities conduct the process of operationalizing the local government system. Mlele District Council was formally established in July 2012 under the provisions of Sections 8 and 9 of the Local Government (County Powers) Act 1982. Mlele District Council, like any other councils in Tanzania, operates with statutory powers and in line with legislation and regulations enacted by Parliament under the Governance Act. Local No. 7 of 1982.
The Council is given a wide range of functions which include: (i) maintaining and facilitating peace, order and good governance in its area of jurisdiction, (ii) to promote the social and economic well-being of all persons within its area of jurisdiction; (3) taking into account national policies and plans for rural and urban development; To promote social and economic development in its jurisdiction. Mlele District Council is one of 185 local authorities in Tanzania implementing various reform measures in the context of decentralization by devolution (D by D). The Board expects to improve the delivery of services to the public. To fulfill the functions of the council as summarized in Section 111 of the Local Government (County Powers) Act 1982, the council requires a strategic decision to drive sustainable local economic development through strategic planning at the council level.
Mlele District is one of the two districts of the Katavi Region of Tanzania.
Mlele District was formed in 2012 out of part of Mpanda District.
