Uvinza District Council
Uvinza, known as Neu Gottorp during the German colonial rule, is a town in western Tanzania in the highlands. The elevation is 996 metres (3,268 ft).
Uvinza is situated between where the Ruchugi River and Malagarasi Rivers merge. The climate is tropical savanna climate
Uvinza District has been established in accordance with Act No. 397 and Government Proclamation no. 237 published in the Government Gazette on September 09, 2011. The District Council commenced on July 01, 2013. Uvinza District Council was derived from Kigoma District Council.
Uvinza has a station on the Tanzanian Railways. In October 2007, it was proposed to build a branch railway to Bujumbura in Burundi junctioning off from there. It is also served by Uvinza Airport, which is located around 2 miles (3.2 km) northeast of the town center. The airport consists of a single, non-paved airstrip which is approximately 3,000 feet (910 m) long.
