Butiama District Council
History
Butiama District Council was established in August 2013, before which it was part of the Musoma Rural District Council. This is where the father of the late Tanzania Mwalimu Julius . Kambarage Nyerere was born.
Butiama District Council has a total area of 2,257.127 square kilometers. In the middle of the area 103 square kilometers is covered by Lake Victoria.
Butiama like other parts of the region, especially in the Mara region, has only two rainy seasons, meaning the autumn rains that fall between October and December, and the other rainy season are the monsoon rains that fall from March. until May.
Butiama District Council has between 24 and 32 degrees Celsius.
The residents of this Council are engaged in various activities of agriculture, livestock, trade, fishing as well as mining.
The agricultural products available in Butiama are maize, round potatoes, sweet potatoes n.k.
Butiama District Council has a total of twelve Departments and six units. The departments are as follows; Department of Personnel and Administration, Department of Planning, Statistics and Monitoring, Department of Health, Department of Finance and Commerce, Department of Primary Education, Department of Secondary Education, Department of Cooperative Agriculture and Irrigation, Department of Livestock and Fisheries, Department of Lands and natural resources, Department of Community Development, Construction Department and Water Department.
Along with these departments Butiama Council has the following units; Legal Unit, Internal Audit Unit, Information and Communication Technology Unit, Supply Unit, Election Unit and Beekeeping Unit.
As of 2012, the Butiama district is administratively divided into 20 wards.
