Nyamagana Municipal Council-Mwanza, Tanzania

Nyamagana Municipal Council is one of the seven districts of the Mwanza Region of Tanzania. It is bordered to the north by Ilemela District, to the east by Magu District, to the south by Misungwi District and to the west by the Mwanza Bay of Lake Victoria. Part of the region’s capital, the town of Mwanza, is within Nyamagana District. The district commission’s office is scheduled to be re-located to the Mkolani area of Mwanza town, but currently it is still in the old city hall in the centre of town.
The city of Mwanza was established in 1892 as an Administrative and Business Center to control the production of cotton in the Lake Victoria area. In 1978 Mwanza gained the status of a Municipality in accordance with the Local Government structure established in 1972. In 2000, Mwanza was further developed to have the status of a City.
This is the second city after Dar es Salaam
The city of Mwanza is located on the southern shores of Lake Victoria in northwestern Tanzania.
Total area 256.45km2 of which 184.90km2 (2/3 of the total area) is dry land and another area is covered with water.
Among the land area is 184,90 square meters, approximately 94% are urban while the remaining areas include forested land, planted valleys, grasslands and deforestation.
Weather
The first city is located at an altitude of 1,140 meters above sea level.
It has temperatures between 25.7OC and 30.2OC in the summer season and 15.4oC and 18.6OC in the winter months.
Annual rainfall between 700 and 1000mm
According to the 2012 National Census, the population in the City was 363,452 (177,812 Men and 185,640 women). The 2016 population is estimated to be 459,565 people.
The population of Mwanza city is about 800,000 people during the day. This is due to the movement from neighboring towns and villages entering into small businesses and various other economic activities.

In 2012, Nyamagana District was divided into twelve wards.
