Kaliua District Council-Tabora, Tanzania

Kaliua District Council is one of the eight Local Government Authorities of Tabora and was established on March 2, 2012 and began its full function on 14 August 2013. Prior to its establishment Kaliua and Ulyankulu were part of Urambo District. The area grew large to be under the District (Urambo) and led to shortages in the provision of quality social services.
GEOGRAPHICAL AREA
The Kaliua District Headquarters is located in Kaliua town, 125 km from Tabora Municipality. The district borders Urambo and Uyui District in the eastern part, Mpanda and Mlele Districts (Katavi region) in the South, Uvinza and Kibondo (Kigoma Region) West. The northern part of the district is bordered by Ushetu (Shinyanga Region) and Bukombe (Geita region) in the northwest.
Kaliua District has a total land area of ​​14,050 square kilometers which is approximately 18.82% of the total area of ​​Tabora. The agricultural area is 1,965.5 square kilometers out of which 1,500 square kilometers are cultivated annually. The remaining 12,084.5 (86%) are forest reserves, common areas of grass and water. The vegetation of the district is divided into the natural miombo forests found in Igombenkulu, Milambo and Kanindo.
WEATHER
The temperature range is 16-33 degrees Celsius and the dry season is August and October. The district receives between 900-1300mm of rainfall annually.
POPULATION
The annual population growth rate for Kaliua district is approximately 4.8%. According to the 2012 population and housing census, the district had a population of 393,358 of whom 196,989 were women (50.1%) and 196,369 men (49.9%). In 2015 the District is estimated to have 452,764 people of whom 226,025 are men and 226,739 are women
ECONOMIC SITUATION
The main source of income in Kaliua district is the trade in annual maize crops (maize, beans, sorghum and sweet potatoes) and commercial crops (tobacco, nuts, cotton, sunflower), forest products, honey and livestock. The agricultural sector employs 80 percent of the Kaliua population. Social and economic services are provided by the Government in partnership with the private sector. Income from livestock, fisheries, honey, small-scale mining industries contribute to household income
AUTHORITY
Kaliua District Council has been established under the Local Government Authorities Act No. 7 of 1982, sections 8 and 9 and amended by Act 6 of 1999.

In 2012, Kaliua District was administratively divided into 28 wards.
