Urambo District Council is one of the seven (7) Districts that make up the Tabora Region. This district was established on 19/07/1975 with identification numbers GN of 185 of 1980 after being divided into Tabora Rural District Council and Urambo; Urambo district has two divisions of Urambo and Usoke, 18 wards, 59 villages and 254 suburbs. In 2013, the Urambo district council also divided into two councils namely Urambo and Kaliua.
This district is bordered by Sikonge and Uyui Districts to the east, and is bordered by Mpanda District (Katavi Region) to the South, and North West to Kaliua District.
Area Size
Urambo District Council covers an area of 6,000 square kilometers (6,110 km2) equivalent to eight percent (8%) of the Tabora Region area. The District Headquarters is located in the small town of Urambo about 90 kilometers from Tabora Town
STATE OF PROTECTION AND SECURITY
The security and safety situation in our District as a whole is good; and this is due to the presence of participatory protection through community policing. This important initiative is permanent by involving the militia in terms of protection by recognizing, caring for and valuing them.
However, the district continues to face frequent incidents of criminal offenses including armed robbery, burglary, motorcycle theft, livestock theft, house fires, etc. The killings in this District are often the result of revenge, superstitious beliefs and a few cases of property rivalry.
Following this situation the district is cooperating with the neighboring Districts in a strategy to strengthen Defense and security and exchange of malicious information among us and the Districts around us.
SITUATION OF SECTOR SERVICE DELIVERY
The activities that have been implemented by the District sector in the provision of social and economic services are as follows: –
ADMINISTRATION AND SERVICE SECTOR.
The district has a total of 1,458 staff from various service cadres as follows: – Administration and Staff 100, Secondary Education 209, Primary Education 835, Health 215, Agricultural Irrigation and Cooperatives 15, Livestock and Fisheries 9, Land and Natural Resources 6, Water 7 , Construction 18, 43 Village Executives and Sanitation and Environment.
Between 2002 and 2012, Kaliua District was split off from Urambo District. That is why the population of Urambo District declined in this period. According to the 2012 Tanzania National Census, the population of Urambo District
In 2002, Urambo District was administratively divided into 26 wards. As of 2012, only 16 wards remained after Kaliua District was split off.
