Merelani Block A-Simanjiro Manyara, Tanzania

Merelani Block A
Since its discovery in the 1960s, the Merelani tanzanite deposit has produced countless thousands of beautiful crystals of gem-grade zoisite in a range of colors, including a coveted deep blue-purple substance called tanzanite. Other highly gravitational minerals have been found there as well, including chromium-green diopside, a variety of green gemstones, blue apatite (CaF), Jimmy green tremolite, and a newer species of magnesiaxenite—since renamed axinite- (Mg) . Despite decades of extensive mining, the deposits continue to produce wonderful specimen crystals and gemstones. New reserves have been discovered in recent years, and the color of tanzanite crystals appears to improve with depth.
