SNV Tanzania
Since the early 2000s, Tanzania has experienced remarkable economic growth and strong resilience to external shocks. However, these achievements are overshadowed by the slow poverty response of the growing economy: the poverty rate remains stagnant at around 34% despite strong annual growth of around 7%. This clear disconnect between growth and poverty reduction must be addressed, and so we focus our work on the energy, agriculture, water, sanitation and hygiene sectors, in line with the Tanzanian National Strategy for Growth and Poverty Reduction.
SNV is an international not-for-profit development organization that makes a lasting difference in the lives of people living in poverty by helping them increase incomes and access essential services. We focus on only three sectors and have a long-term local presence in approximately 24 countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Our team of more than 1,297 employees is the backbone of SNV.
We raise income and access to basic services
We make a lasting difference in the lives of people living in poverty, helping them increase income and access to basic services. Driven by the Sustainable Development Goals, we are committed to a society where all people are free to pursue their sustainable development and no one is left behind. This commitment to equity directs us to focus on gender and youth.
We apply our expertise to deliver results at scale
Local presence and knowledge to reach effective solutions
We apply know-how to support people living in poverty. By connecting our global experience with our extensive and long in-country expertise, we help achieve locally owned solutions. We do this in about 24 countries around the world.
Experience in three sectors
We are experts in Agriculture, Energy, and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH). Our services include advice, brokerage, stakeholder engagement, advocacy, money management, results-based financing and delegated management.
Impact through direct results and system change
Our projects directly benefit millions of people. At the same time, our projects are also driving systems change – strengthening institutions and starting markets to help more people find their way out of poverty, beyond the scope of projects.
We are committed to operational excellence
We are proud to be a not-for-profit organization, and carry out our mission exclusively through project funding. This requires us to operate efficiently and invest in operational excellence every day.
