Kivukoni Fish Market, Dar es salaam-Tanzania
The Kivukoni Fish Market is a commercial place for fish and seafood caught or produced in the Kivukoni region as well as nearby places. In other words, throughout the day, there are fish that are delivered to the place by fishermen and also people from all over the city who come to buy from it. It is famous for having different types of seafood available at the lowest prices in the city.
Seafood, both raw and cooked, can be purchased at any of the individual vendors on site in addition to the single restaurant.
What are you doing there?
Sample the many types of seafood available there, most of which are usually caught fresh on the same day. Try everything from octopus, squid, shrimp, prawns, or whatever fish the anglers were lucky to catch that day, all for $5 USD. A variety of other local dishes are available such as french fries, chapati (morning) and rice.
If you are not particularly hungry that day, you can just watch the many merchants going about their daily duties, or watch the fishermen do their job behind the market. With a good seat in the restaurant you can watch the ships entering or leaving the port and the Kigamboni ferry going from one bank to another. Just remember to leave your valuables at your hotel or home when you come to this place and carry only the money you need.
