If you choose to connect external speakers to your Windows 10 laptop, you just have a few things to set up before you can start listening to your music. You only need to follow these steps:
- Connect headphones or speakers to your computer by connecting them to the appropriate connection (often labeled with an earpiece or small speaker icon) on your laptop.
- Right-click the volume button (which looks like a small speaker) in the notification area of the taskbar and in the menu that opens, click Playback devices.
- In the resulting audio dialog, click on the Speakers / Headphones item and then click on the Properties button.
- In the resulting Speakers/Headphones Properties dialog, click the Levels tab, then use the Speakers/Headphone slider to adjust the speaker volume.
If you see a small red circle with a slash through it on the speaker button, tap on it to activate the speakers.
- Click the Balance button. In the resulting Balance dialog, use the L (left) and R (ight) sliders to adjust the balance of sounds between the two speakers.
- Click OK three times to close all open dialog boxes and save the new settings.
“If you use your laptop to make or receive phone calls, see the Communications tab in the audio dialog. Here you can make a setting to have Windows automatically adjust sounds to reduce background noise”.
