How to Shoot Images in Sports Mode on Your Canon EOS 6D
If you’re using the Canon EOS 6D to shoot a subject like your kid playing soccer or a surfer, choose Sports mode. When you shoot in this mode, the camera chooses a shutter speed that freezes the action. This mode works well for most action shots.
Of course, if you’re shooting a racing car directly approaching you, the only way to take the picture is to shoot in shutter priority mode and prefocus on the camera. To take pictures of moving objects:
1. Press the mode lock button and then rotate the mode dial to SCN.
2. Press the quick control button.
The SCN modes quick control menu is displayed. If you have shot using SCN mode before, the last used mode will be displayed in the quick control menu. Press “Set” to display all SCN mode icons.
3. Use the multi controller to select the sport mode and press set.
When you shoot in Sports mode, the images are saved in JPEG format with the Large Quality setting. This mode uses the standard setting for photo ambiance, the default setting for lighting, and the driving mode is continuous, which means you take a series of action photos as long as your finger is on the shutter button.
You can change a setting by highlighting it with the multi-command dial, pressing Set, and then choosing the desired setting.
4. Press the shutter button halfway to achieve focus.
Position the center AF point over your subject when you press the shutter button halfway. You are also shooting in a focus mode where your camera updates as your subject moves closer to or away from you. Your camera won’t be able to focus on something very fast moving like a jet plane taking off and flying straight towards you.
5. Press the shutter button fully to start taking pictures.
When shooting in this mode, the camera is in continuous mode, which means that the camera will take pictures as long as your finger is on the shutter button. This enables you to capture the sequence of events from the topics.
6. Release the shutter button to stop taking pictures.
Photograph moving objects with the telephoto lens. This enables you to distance yourself from a potentially dangerous topic such as a horse running at full speed. With the telephoto lens, you also get a softer background.
