How to set up speech recognition in Windows 10 on your Computer

Windows depends on you to make settings that customize its behavior on your computer. This is good news for you because the ability to customize Windows gives you a lot of flexibility in how you interact with it.
One way to customize Windows to work with physical challenges is to work with speech recognition, which allows you to enter data into a document using speech instead of a keyboard or mouse.
1. If you have skill challenges caused by a condition such as arthritis, you may prefer to speak commands, using a technology called speech recognition, rather than writing them. Connect a desktop microphone or headset to your computer, enter “speech recognition” into the Cortana search field, and press Enter.
2. Welcome to speech recognition message appears (see the following figure); Click Next to continue. (Note: If you have used speech recognition before, this message will not appear.
3. In the resulting window (shown in the following figure), select the type of microphone you are using and then click Next. The next screen tells you how to place and use the microphone
4. In the next window (see the following figure), read the sample sentence out loud. When finished, click Next. A dialog box appears telling you that your microphone is now set up.
During the Speech Recognition setup procedure, you are given the option to print commonly used commands. It’s a good idea to do this, because speech commands aren’t always second nature!
5. A dialog confirming that your microphone has been set up. Click {Next. In the resulting dialog, choose whether you want to enable or disable document review, as Windows checks your documents and email to help it recognize your speech patterns. Click {Next.
6. In the resulting dialog, choose either the manual activation mode, where you can use your mouse, stylus, or keyboard to operate the feature, or the voice activation, which is useful if you have difficulty handling hardware due to arthritis or hand injury. Click {Next.
7. On the resulting screen, if you want to view and/or print a list of speech recognition commands, click the View Reference Sheet button and read or print the reference information, then click the Close button to close that window. Click Next to continue.
8. In the resulting dialog, leave the default “Turn on speech recognition at startup” check box to automatically turn on Speech Recognition when the computer starts or deselect this setting and manually turn on Speech Recognition each time you need it. Click {Next.

9. The last dialog tells you that you can now control the computer by voice, and provides you with a start tutorial button to help you practice your voice commands. Click this button and follow the instructions to cycle through, or click Skip tutorial to skip the tutorial and leave the speech recognition setting.
10. When you leave the Speech Recognition setting, the Speech Recognition control panel appears (see the previous figure). Say, “Start listening” to activate the feature if you used voice activation, or click Microphone on the speech recognition control panel if you chose manual activation.
11. To stop speech recognition, say, “Stop listening” or click the microphone button on the Speech Recognition control panel. To start speech recognition again, click the microphone button on the speech recognition control panel.
