Bandwidth for Your WordPress Site

There are a lot of hosting providers for your WordPress site, and it is a very competitive market. Here’s a warning to keep in mind about hosting providers that offer unlimited packages. Basically, for a certain cost per month, you get unlimited bandwidth transfer and unlimited hard drive space (along with unlimited domains and databases… pretty much everything unlimited!).
This does not mean that the hosts who do this are not good. But, a popular school of thought says that there is no such thing as infinity. What you need to do when you encounter these offers is to read your hosting provider’s terms of service. Pay special attention to what they have to say about server resources, or more specifically, CPU resource usage.
Although these hosting providers may offer unlimited transfers and hard drive space, if your website gets a boost in traffic, CPU resource usage goes up, and many hosts will throttle your site if your account is using a certain amount of CPU resources for the server as a whole. By throttling, this means that they will pause your website until the CPU resource usage goes down.
If you see an unlimited offer that sounds good to you, follow it. Just be sure to investigate a bit and ask the right questions, like “What are the CPU limitations of my account, and what happens if I exceed them?”
