The University of Pretoria (Afrikaans: Universiteit van Pretoria, Northern Sotho: Yunibesithi ya Pretoria) is a public, multi-campus research university in Pretoria, the administrative and de facto capital of South Africa. The university was founded in 1908 as the Pretoria campus of Johannesburg-based Transvaal University College and is the fourth continuously operating South African institution to be granted university status. The university has grown from the original 32 students in a single late Victorian home to nearly 53,000 in 2019. The university is built on 7 suburban campuses on an area of 1,190 hectares (2,900 acres).
The university is organized into nine colleges and a business school. Founded in 1920, the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences of the University of Pretoria is the second oldest veterinary school in Africa and the only veterinary school in South Africa. In 1949, the university launched the first MBA program outside North America and the university’s Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) has been consistently ranked as Africa’s best business school for executive education, as well as being in the top 50 in the world. In 2012, the Financial Times ranked GIBS’s Executive MBA first in Africa and 60th in the world.

University of Pretoria Postgraduate Admission Requirements
Postgraduate Diploma Requirements
- Appropriate Bachelor’s degree or
- Admission in the case of that degree or
- Obtain a level of proficiency
- Some schools/college may accept an Advanced Diploma for entry to a Postgraduate Diploma if the requirements for HEQF (Higher Education Qualification Framework) are met.
Duration
>>At least two consecutive semesters. Except with the permission of the Senate, all modules must be completed at the University.

Curriculum
>>The curriculum will contain reflection, practice, and advanced research methods in the area of specialization and may include a sustainable research project in accordance with the rules of the College approved by the Senate.

- Obtain a level of proficiency
Duration
>>At least two consecutive semesters. Except with the permission of the Senate, all modules must be completed at the University.
Curriculum:
>The Honors degree syllabus must include a specific research project as one of the modules which must represent at least 25% of the credits for the degree.
Masters by Coursework and Masters by Research Requirements

Duration of courses
A minimum of 2 consecutive semesters (full-time) or 4 consecutive semesters (part-time) before the degree is awarded.

>>At least four consecutive semesters (full-time) or eight consecutive semesters (part-time) before the degree is awarded.
Curriculum
>Students will be required to pursue an accredited research program on a topic within the scope of studies at the university. Such a program must make a distinctive contribution to the knowledge or understanding of the subject and provide evidence of originality shown either through the discovery of new facts and the exercise of independent critical power. Students must also comply with other potential requirements set forth in colleges/schools.
