Moshi Municipal Council-Kilimanjaro, Tanzania | is one of the seven Kilimanjaro Regional Councils. The City of Moshi was established in 1892, relocated to its present location from Kolila Old Moshi (Rural Smoke) in 1911. Moshi Municipality has grown from a small town with a population of 8,048 in 1948 to 184,292 residents according to the 2012 population and housing census which includes 95,118 women and 89,174 men.
Unlike other cities in the country, the correct population estimate should include more than 76,000 people who spend the day in the city for business activities and enjoy Municipal resources but live in areas bordering Moshi Rural and Living Municipalities. These people are not in the budget especially for the LGCDG system and other subsidized programs depending on the population.
Moshi Urban is one of the seven districts of the Kilimanjaro Region of Tanzania. The regional capital of Moshi is located in the Moshi Urban District. The district is bordered to the north by the Moshi Rural District, to the east by the Mwanga District and to the south and west by the Manyara Region.
According to the 2002 Tanzania National Census, the population of the Moshi Urban District is 144,336.
According to the 2012 Tanzania National Census, the population of Moshi Urban District was 184,292
