Ikungi District Council-Singida, Tanzania

Ikungi District Council is one of the six districts of the Singida Region of Tanzania. It is one of the 20 new districts that were formed in Tanzania since 2010; it was split off from Singida Rural District. Ikungi District is bordered to the north by Iramba District, Singida Urban District and Singida Rural District, to the east by Manyara Region, to the south by Manyoni District and to the west by Tabora Region. Its administrative seat is the town of Ikungi.
March 02, 2012 Hon. Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete President of the United Republic of Tanzania through GN No. 73 announced the creation of Ikungi District and on May 03, 2013 Hon. Mizengo Kayanza Pinda Prime Minister through GN. Na. 96 announced the Official Establishment of Ikungi District Council. Ikungi District Council is derived from Singida District Council. The Council officially started performing its duties on 01/07/2013.

Ikungi District Council is one of the 6 Singida Regional Councils. The council is located between 40 and 60 degrees Latitude south of the equator, 340 degrees and 350 degrees East latitude. It receives an average rainfall of 600-700 mm per year with temperatures between 15oC-30oC.
It is bordered by Tabora Region (Uyui District) on the West, Singida Municipality on the North, Singida District on the North-East, Iramba District on the North-West, Dodoma Region (Chemba District) on the South East and Manyoni District in the South.

The council has an area of ​​8,860 Km2 divided into 2 constituencies, Singida West Constituency and Singida East Constituency. In addition, the District has 4 Divisions, 30 Wards, 101 Villages, 545 Suburbs and 53,367 Households.
