Online Business Content Types
Content type deals with the specific format of your online business’s content, or the way it is packaged for consumption. You want to have a variety of content types, but here are some of the most popular ones to add to your content marketing strategy:
Video
Pictures / Images
Memes (images with text on top)
Articles
White papers/evidence
Product Offers
Infographics (using images or graphics as a means of data presentation or research)
Testimonials – Recommendations
Online tools (savings calculators, free trials, etc.)
Interactive quizzes
Electronic newsletters
Blog Posts
Social media posts
Sometimes it seems that you do not have enough content. You can extend the content you already have by resetting its purpose, or repackaging it into a different content type. For example, you might have a video testimonial from a customer. You can take the same information and write it down as a case study for a client. Or you can pull a customer specific comment from the video and use it as a standalone quote – add the quote to an image and create a shareable image for social media.
The content may have an expiration date. Blog posts about a new product, or articles focusing on a current event or news will ultimately be irrelevant because they happen on a specific date or time period. To help increase the power of your content, consider adding some “evergreen” content to the mix. Evergreen means that it stays current, or relevant, indefinitely (or at least for a very long time!). To give the content an evergreen treatment, avoid using dates in the article. For example, instead of referring to “winter 2017,” simply say “winter” or refer to “cold months.” Likewise, avoiding reference to a specific event may also result in the content being dated. The more general your content is written, the better for it to live a long life online as evergreen content.
