Toasting Nuts
Roasted nuts are delicious and easy to prepare. Be careful while roasting nuts. If the nuts get too toasted (too dark), there’s no going back. You have to start over. The roasting process of walnuts only takes minutes (literally), so stay right next to the oven.
1. Spread the nuts evenly on the baking tray and place in a preheated oven at 350°F.
The size of the nut determines the roasting time. Set the timer for 3 minutes.
2. Check the nuts. Shake it or flip it over.
If you’re not quite done, put it back in the oven; Check it out in two minutes. Roasting is done quickly.
3. If they are of the color you are looking for, and are usually a light golden brown, remove them from the oven and let them cool on a baking tray.
You’ll know your nuts are ripe, or almost done, when they smell great. If the shell is on the walnut, it will split to show you the color of the nut.
4. Roasting more nuts than you need
Toast more than your recipe calls for and use in salads or snacks. Store refrigerated nuts in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
