Mahale Mountains

The Mahale Mountains are a remote mountain range located in the Mahale National Park, which is famous for its huge protected population of chimpanzees. A walk here gives you a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to co-exist with chimpanzees in their natural habitat.

The highest peak in the mountain range is Mount Nkungwe, at 2,462 meters above sea level. If you decide to take a 3-day mountain trek up the mountain, hire a local guide and be sure to keep an eye out for the lions.

Mahale National Park borders Lake Tanganyika and can be reached by plane or boat. The lake also offers opportunities to relax on the beach or snorkel with the countless colorful fish.
