Squid Game

Squid Game is a South Korean drama that is broadcasting a survival television series created by Hwang Dong-hyuk for Netflix. The cast includes Lee Jong Jae, Park Hye Soo, Woo Ha Joon, Hyun Joong, O Young-soo, Heo Seung Tae, Anupam Tripathi, and Kim Joo Ryung.
The series revolves around a competition in which 456 players, all in significant financial debt, risk their lives to play a series of killer children’s games for a chance to win a prize of 45.6 billion yen. The title of the series is taken from a Korean children’s game of the same name. Hwang conceived the idea based on his economic struggles early in his life, as well as class inequality in South Korea and capitalism. Although he initially wrote it in 2009, he was unable to find a production company to fund the idea until Netflix took an interest in about 2019 as part of its quest to expand its foreign program offerings.
