Bridgerton Season 2 | Release Date, Cast, Updates and Budget;- Name an interesting TV series more than a “very, very steamy feminist figure dealing with the strict social mores of early 19th century London, all narrated by an invisible chatter dog voiced by Julie Andrews” – I dare you. This is Bridgerton, Shonda Rhimes’ first project under her huge deal on Netflix, which dropped on December 25, 2020 and basically combines the best parts of Pride & Prejudice and Gossip Girl. It quickly became Netflix’s biggest hit of all time, with 82 million families watching the show in its first month. For context, that’s not far from the Super Bowl (about 100 million households a year).
Some people—not me surely, but certainly someone with less obsessive tendencies and a more varied taste for television—may think that eight and a half hours of longing glances, illicit affairs, empire dresses, and royal pronouncements would be more than enough to satisfy any fan of period series. To these folks, I say: I have a Regency age fever, and the only prescription is more Bridgeton. Fortunately for all of us, Season 2 of Shondaland’s masterpiece is coming – filming has already begun in England (more on that in a moment) – with seasons three and four already confirmed and planned by the geniuses of Shondaland, as well as a limited prequel series for Queen Charlotte.
The day Bridgeton’s second season being released
Filming for the second season began in the spring of 2021, but had to stop in mid-July following the outbreak of COVID-19. Filming resumed in mid-August, with showrunner Chris Van Dousen confirming that at least the first two episodes were in post-production in the meantime. While fans were hoping for Christmas 2021 — a year after the first season was released — Netflix revealed in September 2021 that the second season wouldn’t release until 2022.
Who will play the role of Anthony Bridgerton’s love in Bridgerton’s second season?
Netflix has revealed that Simone Ashley will be joining the cast of Bridgerton as Kate Sharma. “Get ready to fall in love with Simone Ashley…” read the Netflix ad. “Kate is a smart, stubborn young woman who doesn’t suffer from fools – largely including Anthony Bridgerton.” (Fans of the book series will remember the character as “Kate Sheffield.”) Ashley is best known for her role as Olivia in Sex Education on Netflix.
Speaking to The Today Show in January, show maker Chris Van Dousen gave more details of Kate and Anthony’s relationship and described it, on Deadline, as “as sweeping, moving, and beautiful as viewers of the show’s first season have come to expect.” He continued, “We left [Anthony] at the end of season one at a bit of a crossroads, so I’m looking forward to getting off and finding out how well he’s doing in the marriage market.”
The official description of Julia Quinn’s Viscount Who Loved Me defines Kate as “the most inquisitive woman ever to grace a London ballroom” and “a spirited planner”.
Speaking to TV Line, Executive Producer Chris Van Dousen said of Anthony and Kate, “This romance will be as magical and beautiful as viewers expected.”
Netflix introduced fans to Kate and her family — her mother, Mary, and sister Edwina — with a still image from the first episode of season two. In the photo, Lady Danbury guides the new band members, dressed in high-quality clothes, to a party.

Yes! In the new season’s first peek-a-boo, Kate Sharma pulled out Anthony Bridgerton’s sideburns without some crack, who heard viscosity detailing his “many requirements for a wife, loud enough to hear the whole party.”
Clearly Kate could hold her own against Anthony, attacking him: “I find your opinion of yourself very high. Your character is as imperfect as your chivalry.” It’s unclear how Anthony will be able to pull the new talk a ton, but one thing is certain: their chemistry puts Daphne and Simon to shame.
