EAMCEF was officially registered in Tanzania on June 6, 2001, under the Trustees Establishment Act (Cap. 318, R.E.2002) of the laws of Tanzania. The Trust operates as a non-profit, non-governmental organization. The credit facility has been used to finance activities and operations in its first 7-year phase (2002-2009), the establishment phase. Funding for the second phase (permanent phase) was initially planned to come mainly from the income generated from the endowment capital investment secured by the US$7.0 million GEF commitment. In addition to additional resources gained from other sources through fundraising activities.
