Thousands Of Sassa R350 Grants Remain Uncollected;- Thousands of Sassa grant recipients eligible for an R350 grant during the first cycle of an SRD grant did not collect their payments. In addition, more than 442,000 recipients of the grant’s second cycle, between August 2021 and March 2022, also did not claim their funds.

The Ministry of Social Development said that eligible beneficiaries are still able to do so.

Speaking during a TV interview, Sassa spokesperson Pasika Letsatsi said there are approximately 330,000 R350 recipients who have yet to receive grant payments from the previous cycle.

Letsatsi adds that part of the reason for the backlog is that there was a period during which SASA suspended the SRD grant before the start of the previous cycle. It is further stated that in some circumstances beneficiaries may have lost or changed their numbers.

SASA also noted that recipients also tend to exclude their bank account numbers when applying for an SRD grant, in an attempt to hide their transaction history.

In the case of people who applied for the scholarship but started receiving payments a few months after their application was approved, Sassa conducts the verification process on a monthly basis.
